So here you are. You have all the components that you need for your custom gaming computer, everything is set up, and you are almost ready to game, but something is missing. What else could you need to get you game on? Well… games of course, but besides that? A gaming headset, of course!

For those jumping into PC gaming, a good headset is a must for many reasons. A headset can be used to communicate with others during online games, help you provide commentary when streaming your games to others, and even help cancel out the world. To say it is essential to a gamer is an understatement, so today we will be providing a review of one of the more affordable headset options available: The Logitech G230 headset.

The Logitech G230 is an excellent pick for those looking to get a headset without breaking the bank. The headset has many features that make it stand out from the competition, such as the G20 being incredibly lightweight, comfortable ear cups that can be removed for easy cleaning, and a long, ten-foot cord. Unfortunately, with an affordable price point comes more setbacks that we’ll discuss in the review below.

PROS

  • Lightweight design also helps with comfort
  • Affordable price point compared to other headsets
  • Soft ear pads, making for a comfortable fit around the ears
  • Microphone is designed to help cancel out background noises
  • Ten-foot cord, meaning it’s possible to play games from varying distances
  • Ear cups can be removed, making them easy to clean. Ear cups are also easily adjustable

CONS

  • Flimsy design, meaning that the unit can sometimes break easy
  • Audio output is in stereo, which makes audio a bit underwhelming
  • Headband isn’t very flexible, making the headset uncomfortable to wear for some
  • Issues with microphone volume, with some having quiet or no microphone feedback

Main Features

  • High Quality Stereo Sound for Gaming
  • Soft and Durable Cloth Earpads, Lightweight Design. Headphone Frequency response-20Hz-20KHz
  • Folding, noise-cancelling boom mic: Reduces background noise for clear voice pick up

We would Rate the G230 an 8.0/10

The Logitech G230 certainly isn’t perfect, but at such a low price we still recommend it to anyone looking for gaming headsets under $50.

One of the main reasons to love the Logitech G230 is because of how comfortable it is. Yes, the G230 isn’t the best, but for someone on a budget, it is worth every penny. If you’re looking to remain stylish and want to go with a trusted brand, then the Logitech G230 is something we recommend you check out.

What’s Great About The Logitech G230?

There are many things for gamers to love about the Logitech G230, as they were made for gaming. They deliver high-quality stereo sound that will help you fully immerse into the game world. Most gaming headsets seem to lack bass, but the G230s have just the right amount of bass present. The G230’s highs and middles are also great for the price.

One of the best pros of this headset is that it is very comfortable. This is important for those who usually play for extended periods of time when gaming. Long gaming periods are possible because of the Logitech G230’s high-quality cloth earpads. Yes, you can always take breaks between gaming sessions, but if you want something that is comfortable, the G230 is a great option.

The Logitech G230 supports multiple operating systems, with plug and play capabilities on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10, as well as being usable on Linux and Mac operating systems. The headset also has easy to use volume controls, which are readily available on the cord of the headset. This makes it much easier and when you are not in the mood for talking or otherwise do not want to use it, the microphone can be rotated and placed comfortably away from the mouth.

Another feature that isn’t often talked about is the noise-canceling features of the headset. While the Logitech G230 isn’t listed as having noise-canceling features outside of the microphone, users found that the headset does a great job of canceling out the outside world. Despite outputting in stereo, when listening to game audio or music, they heard nothing else but the audio, making for a more immersive experience.

Finally, we'd like to talk about the Logitech G230’s design. Many people might see it as a non-factor, but for many gamers, having headsets that look good is just as important as the sound. With that in mind, we have to say the Logitech G230 is a great looking headset. The black and red design work well, and the headset isn't too bulky either.

What Could Be Better About The Logitech G230?

The Logitech  G230 is a great headset to jump right into online games. The microphone, as said above, does a good job of canceling out background noise, and when it works, provides crisp and clear voice feedback over the internet. The microphone can also be great when recording video or streaming on Twitch.

However, that is when it works. Unfortunately, some people have claimed to have had issues with the microphone, with some saying they have had trouble with their microphones volume. These problems have varied from the volume being very low, to not working at all. However, this is not always the case and many users have not experienced this.

Another issue that some may have is with the audio itself. While this may come off as more of preference for some, the audio to the headphones is output in stereo. This means that the audio quality is not quite as good as some of the more expensive headsets that provide surround sound, and the audio does sometimes come off a little quieter at times. But again, while using the Logitech G230, most have never found any real issue with the audio, and as stated before, this is more of a preference than anything else.

One thing that is a big problem, however, is the durability of the headset. The Logitech G230 is designed to be lightweight, but that design choice has also led to the unit being slightly fragile. The headset can be broken quite easily if you are not careful with it. There is also a small issue, with the headband portion of the headset.

For those with larger heads, the headband is not too flexible to accommodate this. This makes the headset a bit uncomfortable to wear without moving it forward a bit.

All this can sound quite negative, but don’t get us wrong, this is a good headset. We love the length of the cord in particular, because it allows users to be a bit further away from the computer than with some of the other affordable headsets. The removable ear pads are also a nice touch, as it makes for easy cleaning and management of the ear pads.

Conclusion

It goes without saying that the Logitech G230 Gaming Headset is not without its fair share of flaws. A lot of these flaws will turn off some people when they are deciding whether or not to make a purchase. But it is important to remember that, while issues with design and audio do exist, people having these problems seem to be the minority. For the most part, the Logitech G239 provides convenience for many gamers, as well as crisp and clean microphone feedback.

While this headset may not be for everybody, this is one affordable headset that is well worth the price you pay for it, and we have nothing but praise to offer for the Logitech G230. We hope this review has helped aid in your quest for a gaming headset, and thanks for reading!

When the tech company I worked for restructured and I ended up jobless, I decided to put the wealth of knowledge and management skills to use somewhere new. I’d checked out a few buyer’s guides on the site in the past and reached out to the previous owner. A few months later, here we are. Now, I get to be behind the scenes, helping people find the best tech.
