The 47LW65000 brings the same passive, polarized 3D technology used in most US cinemas into the comfort of your home through its 47-inch display. Instead of using active-shutter glasses to watch TV, which tend to be heavier and much more expensive, the LW6500 uses light, cheap, and battery-free polarized 3D glasses -- you can even bring home your glasses from the movie theater, and they'll work on this TV. The polarized-type 3D also helps to minimize crosstalk (double images) and are virtually flicker-free, as to eliminate annoying blinking lights. Outside of the 3D realm, the LW6500 is a capable, mid-range LED set. It uses edge-mounted LED backlights with local dimming for a relatively balanced and clear picture, though there really is no comparison to full-array LEDs. A refresh rate of 240 Hz keeps action smooth, even in 3D mode. Also included is LG’s Smart TV function, which makes connecting the Internet through your set a breeze, and the gimmicky (but admittedly pretty cool) Magic Wand Remote. Based on the specs and the price, this model is likely to be one of the best bets for folks looking to buy a mid-range 3DTV without all the irritating issues caused by active-shutter models. The LW6500 is also available in 55 and 65-inch configurations.
